Live like a “local” when in Malaga

There are plenty of things to do in Malaga, whether you’re looking for culture, architecture or just want to lay back and enjoy the Mediterranean vibe.  Here are a few ideas to submerse yourself in this beautiful city – live like a local.

Churros

You can’t visit Spain and not experience Churros.  Malaga has several options and all of them serve coffee.  They also offer other selections of food and drinks.  Casa Aranda on Calle Herreria del Rey, 5 minute walk from the apartment.  Churreria La Malaguena on Calle Sebastian Souviron, 5 minute walk from the apartment.

Iberico Jamon

Iberico Jamon

What is a visit to Spain if you haven’t tried their Jamon.  It is served everywhere but if you want to buy a few slices you need to visit two of our favourite places.  Jamones Salamanca, located in Plaza Uncibay  – Calle Casapalma, a 3 minute walk from the apartment.  The other one is Bandeira on Calle Granada, 30, a 1 minute walk from the apartment.

Malaga Bodega

No trip to Malaga is complete without enjoying a glass of wine at Bodega Antigua Casa de Guardia. This super traditional Malaga wine bar was founded in 1840, and is famous for making DO Malaga wines at their nearby bodega (winery). The bar itself is a national treasure– the barrels are beautiful.  Located at the base of Calle Marques de Larios on Alameda Principal, 18, a 7 minute walk from the apartment.  El Pimpi is a Malaga institution– everyone who visits the city must stop here at least once! You can admire its gorgeous wine barrels, each signed by a famous person (such as Antonio Banderas or Penelope Cruz!). It’s undoubtedly one of the best wine bars in Malaga, especially if you want to taste a variety of Malaga’s delicious sweet wines with local cheeses.  Located at Plaza de la Juderia, a 5 minute walk from the apartment.

Flamenco Show

Flamenco Show

Flamenco is an expression of the character and way of life of Malaga and its people.  There are numerous places to visit to experience Flamenco but the best way is watching a show over dinner.  Our favourite spot is Cal Y Canto located in Plaza de las Flores, Calle Arquitecto Blanco Soler, 3, a 2 minute walk from the apartment.

Food is fantastic but please inquire in advance when the show takes place as it does not occur everyday

Beach

The most popular beach is La Malagueta which is a 16 minute walk from the apartment.  If you want to continue the walk along the coast, the next beach going east is La Caleta which is 25 minutes from the apartment

Chiringuito

Chiringuito

A chiringuito is a small bar offering mainly drinks and tapas by the beach.  A local favourite is their barbequed sardines (Espetos).  When visiting the beach, be sure to have lunch at Chiringuito El Cachalote, near La Malagueta beach – you will not be disappointed.

Malaga Bull Fight

Malaga is in the heart of bullfighting country and is a good place to watch with genuine fans.  The Feria de Málaga is when you can experience a bullfight in Malaga.  The bullring in Malaga is at Plaza La Malagueta, near the Castillo de Gilbralfaro. A 13 minute walk from the apartment
